After being humiliated in jail Malli volunteers his group and himself. Short after a young Silkh leader speaks of a plan to destroy the Muslim train heading to Pakistan. Malli and his gang are imprisoned for a short period of time. He takes his jail time as a useful tool in his movement. Iqbal just talks about how good this will help him. Jugga while in prison talks about his faith and shows how he has peace with god’s will. Hukam Chand keeps both men locked behind bars while he tries to plan to save his people. Iqbal is put in jail so Chand could find out more information on him. Jugga was put in jail because they believe he knows who killed Lala Ram Lal. Iqbal is also imprisoned for being associated with the murder. Jugga is arrested for Malli and his gang’s murder. Malli and his gang begin their stay at Mano Majra with the killing of Lala Ram Lal. They come into Mano Majra and cause mischief. These men use to be Jugga’s group, but once Jugga left Malli took over. The author also introduces Malli and his gang. Throughout the novel he and feels bad for his actions. Chand is debating on deflowering a women the same age as his daughter. The third main character is Hukam Chand who is the regional magistrate. Iqbal is sent to reform the middle class to change the war. Iqbal Singh is a social worker for the People’s Party of India. Jugga has a secret lover, Nooran, who happens to be the Muslim’s leader’s daughter. The town criminal and misfit is Juggut “Jugga” Singh. The three main characters help develop the story. The events from different points of views made the novel more realistic to me by giving more insight. This helps to prove the points in the novel. Singh uses three main characters to tell his story in third person.Singh never gives his thoughts straight forward but instead by switching narrators. Train to Pakistan is a historical novel written by Khushwant Singh. This begins Hukam Chand plan to save the Muslims of Mano Majra by training them to safety in Pakistan. This cause the town to split and become worried only about their religious group.

Khushwant Singh’s name is bound to go down in Indian literary history as one of the finest historians and novelists, a political commentator, and social critic. He then worked as a journalist at the All India Radio. In 1947, when the novel was set, Singh joined the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. He practiced law at the Lahore High Court. Singh was well educated since he studied at numerous colleges including Government College, Lahore and at King’s College, Cambridge University, and the Inner Temple in London. Singh is known as one of the best known Indian writers. Khushwant Singh was born in 1915 in what is now Pakistan. The novel was published and copyrighted in 1956 by Grove Press, Inc.
